SAPHIR DAVIS (they/them)

Saphir is thrilled to join the Hack.Diversity team as the REDI (racial equity, diversity, and inclusion) Associate. With their background in cultivating practices and knowledge for equity, Saphir looks forward to advancing Hack.Diversity’s innovative work in supporting Black and Latinx professionals in tech, growing the working culture at partner organizations, and transforming belonging in the professional hiring and training spaces.

Saphir has cultivated a multifaceted experience in space-making and thought leadership to empower People of the Global Majority and transgender and queer communities. As a Black and trans-nonbinary person, from youth they have been a passionate advocate for the advancement of identities that experience disadvantages. They received their BA at Loyola Marymount University in Multimedia Arts, with interdisciplinary study in African-American Studies, Psychology, and Women and Gender Studies. Saphir is currently pursuing an MA program in Art Therapy & Counseling at Southwestern College, where they serve on the Student Coalition for Diversity & Inclusion. Professionally for the past seven years, Saphir has volunteered and worked at organizations that have centered the needs, joy, and thriving of communities that experience under-resourcing.

When they don’t have their nose in a book and aren’t fighting the power, you can find Saphir cozy at home with their two cats Lua & Midi, a podcast exploring humanity, and a cup of sleepytime tea. When outdoors, Saphir loves to travel domestically and internationally, try new vegan restaurants, and attend indie music festivals with their partner Ryan.
