Hack.Diversity Sunset Announcement

BOSTON, MA and NEW YORK CITY, NY — April 24, 2025 — We, the Board of Directors and staff of Hack.Diversity, are sharing the difficult news that we will not be enrolling additional classes after the 2025 cohort and will cease our current operations as of August 30, 2025.

We are incredibly proud of the impact the organization has had on the lives of over 600 Fellows and dozens of innovative companies in Boston and NY since our founding nearly ten years ago. In 2024, the majority of our Fellows were making between $75,000 - $150,000 a year, far exceeding any control group. Over a lifetime, our investment in skill-building, time, and resources to support our Fellows has an ROI (measured in earning capacity) of over $1 million.

We have built a community based on the principles of hard work, opportunity for ALL, and collaboration towards mutually-beneficial goals. These relationships will last a lifetime. We were embraced by a tech community in Boston and NYC that values skills over degrees and by companies that prioritize finding talent that also adds vibrancy to their community.

When we launched Hack nearly 10 years ago, our product-market fit was impeccable: there was high demand for engineering talent and proven studies that DEI increases bottom lines. We equipped remarkable engineering talent from nontraditional education pathways to fill that demand. Over the past year, the landscape has shifted dramatically. There has been a significant increase in the use of AI for coders as well as a focus on cost containment during a challenging period in the capital markets, leading to fewer job openings. In addition, the current backlash against DEI programs has impacted demand for our work.

We are grateful for the Fellows we have served, the Host Companies we have worked with, the donors who have supported this mission, and our Board and staff who have worked tirelessly to meet the mission of breaking down barriers and building access for the next generation in tech. As we wrap up this cycle, we invite you to share with us a meaningful experience you had with Hack.Diversity and celebrate the many successes we have had together as a community.

In partnership,
Michelle, Jeff, and the Hack Board of Directors and Staff
